Festival season in the UK is all about music, road trips, and making memories. Whether you’re into rock, dance, or something more niche, there’s a festival for you. And while the journey is part of the fun, it’s important to plan ahead. With Moto sites located along the UK’s busiest motorways, we’re here to keep you fuelled, refreshed and ready for the festivities.
So, here’s a roundup of some of the UK’s most iconic music festivals, how to get there, who they’re perfect for, and where to take a break on the way.
Glastonbury Festival
📍 Somerset, 25 – 29 June 2025
🎶 Vibe: Rock, pop, indie, dance, and everything in between
👥 Best for: Hardcore music lovers, groups of friends, seasoned festivalgoers
Most people drive to Glastonbury via the M4 or M5 motorways. From London or the South East, you’ll likely take the M3 to the A303 westbound. From the North or Midlands, the M5 southbound is your best bet. If you’re heading down the M5, our service stations at Bridgwater and Exeter are ideal for a leg stretch, food stop or toilet break before diving into the Somerset countryside. Exeter is especially good for EV charging, as it’s one of our EV Superhubs!
Reading and Leeds Festival
📍 Reading & Leeds, 21 – 24 August 2025
🎶 Vibe: Alt-rock, indie, hip hop, and punk
👥 Best for: Teens, students, first-timers, indie music fans
Reading: Via the M4, exit at Junction 11 for Reading. Moto Reading East and West (depending on your direction) are great points to stop and refuel before heading into town.
Leeds: Take the A1(M) or M1 north to Leeds. Exit at Junction 45 for the festival site. If you’re coming from the South East, you can stop at our shiny new Sawtry site on the A1(M), but there are many options including Grantham North which is also on the A1, as well as Donington Park on the M1.
TRNSMT Festival
📍 Glasgow, 11 – 13 July 2025
🎶 Vibe: Mainstream pop, rock, and dance
👥 Best for: Young adults, locals, festival fans who prefer day festivals over camping
From England, the M6 and M74 are your gateways into Glasgow. If you’re coming from Edinburgh, it’s the M8 westbound. You’re spoiled for choice when it comes to rest stops if you’re travelling on the M6, as there’s quite a few Moto sites including our award-winning Rugby site! If you want to do some sightseeing, Kinross on the M90 offers a clean, scenic stop if you’ve got a little time to kill.
Isle of Wight Festival
📍 Newport, 19 – 22 June 2025
🎶 Vibe: Pop, rock, nostalgic acts, family-friendly atmosphere
👥 Best for: Mixed groups, families, music fans looking for a classic British summer vibe
Most festivalgoers drive to ferry terminals in Portsmouth, Southampton, or Lymington, accessible via the M3, M27, or A3. Stop off on the M3 at Moto Winchester or on the A34 at Moto Chieveley if coming from the Midlands or Oxford area. Stock up on snacks before boarding your ferry!
Boomtown Fair
📍 Winchester, 6 – 10 August 2025
🎶 Vibe: Immersive experience, electronic, reggae, hip hop, punk
👥 Best for: Adventurous music fans, creative souls, festival veterans
The site is just off the A31, accessible from the M3. Travelling from London? You’ll head southwest on the M3 before picking up the A31. Moto Winchester will again be your one stop shop before diving into one of the UK’s most imaginative festivals.
Creamfields
📍 Cheshire, 21 – 24 August 2025
🎶 Vibe: EDM, house, trance, drum & bass
👥 Best for: Dance music lovers, partygoers, big group weekends
Situated between Liverpool and Manchester, Creamfields is best accessed via the M6, M56, or M62. If heading north on the M6, here’s another chance to stop off at our award-winning Rugby site for a pre-fest rest or some essentials you may have missed.
Green Man Festival
📍 Brecon Beacons, 14 – 17 August 2025
🎶 Vibe: Folk, indie, electronic, alternative
👥 Best for: Nature lovers, families, music fans who enjoy a scenic backdrop
Use the M4 to head into South Wales, then follow signs through the A465 or smaller country roads towards Crickhowell. Stop for a recharge at Moto Severn View on the M48 or Moto Cardiff West on the M4 before turning off into the stunning Welsh countryside. Don’t forget your wellies!
