Moto Foundation have reached their £1million milestone, smashing their fundraising targets for mental health charities, Mind and Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH).
Just halfway through the 5-year partnership, Moto Foundation have smashed their fundraising targets, raising a staggering £1,225,000 for their charity partners, Mind and SAMH.
Throughout 2024, Moto colleagues dedicated their time and efforts to raising awareness and vital funds for mental health. It was an action-packed year; a brave group of walkers took on a sponsored hike across Yorkshire’s three peaks, Moto Hospitality’s senior operating board got rather soggy when taking part in the great Moto dragon boat race and there were countless themed fundraisers held at Moto sites across the UK. A huge team effort for the mental health cause resulting in a fantastic £525,000 raised in 2024.
The funds raised this year will directly contribute to Mind’s vital work supporting people with mental health problems. With Moto Foundation’s help, Mind can continue to offer mental health information and advice through national services such as their helplines and peer support online community, Side by Side. The funds could have supported Mind to answer over 20,800 enquiries to their Legal Line, where they give crucial advice on mental health law, helping people understand things like discrimination and the rights you have in a mental health hospital. Or they could have supported Side by Side to remain open for 445 whole days, giving people access to a virtual safe space to listen, share and be heard.
Part of the funding has gone towards supporting the network of local Minds that provide community-based mental health support across England and Wales. 16 local Minds have received grants from the funding, one of which is West Kent Mind, to fund their Children and Young People’s Mental Health Support Programme. This programme provides support to entire families through their programme of youth mental health awareness training in schools, coupled with parent and carers support groups for families where a child or young person is at risk of suicide or self-harm. Another project that has been supported through these grants is Mind in Harrogate District’s Mental Health Befriending project which supports people who are lonely and isolated, many of whom are on low incomes, rurally isolated and without access to transport or services.
Dr Sarah Hughes, CEO of Mind, shared her gratitude for the Moto Foundation partnership.
“We want to say a huge thank you to Moto Foundation and every single person who has contributed to this fantastic partnership. Whether you donated, offered your time, took part in an event, or raised awareness, we are so grateful for your unwavering support.
We’re in the middle of a mental health crisis. There’s more than 2 million people waiting for NHS mental health support and the increased cost of living is having a devastating impact on the nation’s mental health. It’s more important than ever that everyone has access to the support they need.
The money raised will help us to reach the people who need us through our vital services such as Mind’s Infoline, legal line, support line and our online peer support community Side by Side, as well as offer tailored support to local communities through our network of local Minds. It has also helped our local Minds provide mental health services in their local communities. Together, we can make sure there’s no mind left behind.”
Louise Hughes, Chair of the Moto Foundation, commented:
“We are proud to stand with Mind & SAMH in the fight for mental health. Raising over £1m in 2 ½ years is a phenomenal achievement that will make such a difference to those in need of mental health support. We knew when Moto colleagues voted to partner with Mind that this cause was important to them and their passion for fundraising has just been incredible. Huge thanks must also go to Moto customers, brand partners and suppliers for their amazing generosity. I am excited for the future and how we can build on this wonderful £1m milestone.”
