Did you know?
This month is World Earth Month, and at Moto, we are working together to create a more sustainable future by taking positive steps to protect our planet, customers, colleagues and communities, whilst continuing to brighten peoples’ journeys through life. So, we’d like to use this opportunity to showcase some of the things we’re doing as a business to reduce our environmental footprint.
Too Good To Go
We are extremely proud to be a part of the Too Good To Go (TGTG) network of over 24,000 businesses combating food waste across the UK. Too Good to Go is an app that connects you to us when unsold food becomes available, helping us to reduce food waste. It’s a win-win situation – less food is wasted, and customers get great food at a great price! You can get the TGTG app too – click here for the Android app or here for the iPhone app.
EV Charging
We’re proud to be leading the charge on the UK motorway network. We are committed to making the switch to EV’s easier, reducing range anxiety by rolling out ultra-rapid charging to selected sites, and fast charging to others. We strive to encourage more sustainable driving by making it easier for EV drivers to recharge regardless of where they’re going, or where they’re coming from. Reducing energy and water wastage on our sites
We actively encourage colleagues working on our sites to be mindful of the energy and water being used on site, and to make sure everything is in working order. Things like checking for water leaks, not turning on catering equipment too early and turning off lights when not in use can make such a difference to the environment, ensuring we are not wasting precious resources and are being mindful of our environmental impact. A little goes a long way!
Solar panels and farms
We partnered with Geo Green Power to install solar panels at an initial 13 of our motorway service stations throughout the UK, with an estimated output of 1.24MWh a year. These installations aim to bolster our green credentials, reducing energy costs and taking us a step closer to carbon neutrality. The solar panels have now been installed at Winchester North, Wetherby, Grantham, Pease Pottage, Donnington Park, Stirling, Trowell, Woolley Edge Southbound, Thurrock, Southwaite, Woolley Edge Northbound, Cherwell Valley and Rugby – which has the largest install of 402kWp.
Each installation is having an immediate impact on emissions, delivering a total reduction of 311 tonnes of CO2 annually. We are also exploring our own solar farms spotlighting Wetherby and Donington Park as key locations.
Supporting our Charity partners
At Moto, our donations to the Woodlands Trust and WWT ensure we are preserving and restoring vital woodlands, green spaces and encouraging wildlife to flourish and feel safe. Our charity partners work is invaluable in keeping the environment and sustainability at the forefront and we are proud to play our part in supporting.
These are some of the ways in which we do our part in taking care of Planet Earth. For us, our commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop after Earth Day.
