Marv & the Killer Plants winners revealed
Congratulations to Freya, and Moto Lancaster’s adopted school, Dolphinholme C of E Primary School for scooping top prize!
Children from Moto Foundation’s adopted schools were challenged to write their own stories about Marv and the Killer Plants, based on the books by Alex Falase-Koya and Paula Bowles.
Over 300 stories from 11 schools were submitted. Freya’s story came out on top, with the winning school receiving £2,500 for outdoor play equipment as well as a brilliant writing and illustrating workshop from Marv author, Alex and illustrator Paula.
This story is so well written, the descriptions made us feel like we were watching a movie! We love how Freya combines real world problems such as the Cost of Living Crisis with the fantasy world. The whole story flows really well, and has lots of surprising twists and turns which all have purpose and meaning, driving the story forward.
Alex and Paula’s verdict on Freya’s story
In addition to Dolphinholme’s win, four worthy runners up from schools in Medway, Woolley Edge and Lancaster, all won a £50 WH Smith voucher for themselves and £1,000 worth of books for their school from Oxford University Press.
“They all spun around, frightened and shocked to see it was a troll. He had a ripped t-shirt, showing off his fat stomach and greasy belly button. His teeth were black and green and he had old, torn trousers covered in decaying leaves and small twigs in his hair. He had an axe in his right hand above his head, ready to attack!”
