May has been a step-tacular month for Moto Foundation as the charity celebrated its £10 million fundraising milestone with the fundraising and exercise challenge Target 10 million: 10,000 steps a day in May!
The concept was simple; complete 10,000 steps a day, every day during May. If 33 colleagues complete the challenge they would cumulatively take just over 10,000,000 steps.
Moto colleagues really stepped up, smashing their steps and fundraising targets by taking over 35 million steps and raising well over £20,000 for Moto Foundation!
Total steps achieved: 35,246,623!
88 Moto colleagues completed 10,000 steps every day in May. That is enough to walk from Moto’s head office in Toddington, Bedfordshire to Adelaide, Australia and back again! The leading number of steps taken by an individual was 813,932. The numbers were only part of the story though, as colleagues shared stories about how they were completing their steps and the benefits they were noticing.
Whether it was taking a picnic on an evening walk instead of staying in a hotel room, getting the whole family (including many, many dogs) involved, using the challenge as part of a team building day or month or as a way to get back a little lost physical or mental health – this challenge was a very personal one.
Amount fundraised: £20,759
Alongside the stepping, the fundraising has been impressive, and a total generated by many small acts of generosity – 780 individual donations were made.
There are so many things Moto Foundation can do with the funds raised:
- £1,000 – the average community grant value awarded to charities local to Moto sites, and supported by Moto colleagues
- £500 – could purchase young trees that go into Moto Foundation partner, the Woodland Trust’s free schools & communities tree packs
- £50 – the prize each young runner-up receives in the Foundation’s annual adopted schools writing competition
- £10 – the cost for Mind, Moto Foundation’s national charity partner, to answer 1 Infoline call
Congratulations to everyone who has given up their time and energy to take part – walking early in the morning, late at night and in the rain (avoiding passing swans and cows!). To get so many people taking part and raising a very significant amount for Moto Foundation is fantastic and a testament to how highly we regard the ‘Give Back’ value within Moto.
