What is ProjectEDWARD?
ProjectEDWARD (Every Day Without a Road Death) is an annual road safety campaign that aims to raise awareness and promote safe driving practices to reduce the number of road deaths and serious injuries. This year, they challenged themselves to embark on a nationwide road trip using 3 Electric cars supplied by our friends at GRIDSERVE. This activity was to help spread the message of overcoming range anxiety, effective journey planning and the importance of rest breaks. This week of action coincided with the UN Global Road Safety Week with an stop off at Moto Exeter.
By highlighting the importance of safe driving practices and encouraging individuals to make a personal commitment to road safety, ProjectEDWARD aims to create a safer road environment, reduce road fatalities and serious injuries, and ultimately work towards the vision of zero road deaths.
At Moto, we understand the importance of rest breaks and reducing driver fatigue. Our sites are situated along the motorway network to encourage a rest stop with plentiful facilities to support. With up to 20% of all car crashes being due to driver fatigue, commonly on motorways and dual carriageways, having a strategic stop off can prevent this.
ProjectEDWARD and EV
Electric cars are gaining popularity as more people embrace environmental consciousness and recognise the benefits of electric vehicles. However, driving an electric car on the UK’s motorways poses distinct challenges that drivers should be aware of. When driving an electric car on the motorway network and embarking on long journeys, taking breaks becomes crucial for optimal performance and convenience.
One vital consideration when driving an EV is the vehicle’s range. Unlike traditional cars, electric vehicles have a limited range that can vary depending on factors such as weather conditions, terrain, and driving style. Careful journey planning is essential to ensure sufficient charge for reaching your destination or the next available charging station.
Regular breaks play a pivotal role when driving an electric car. These breaks not only allow you to recharge yourself but also provide an opportunity to recharge your vehicle. Since electric cars require a considerable amount of time to charge, taking regular breaks helps prevent running out of charge during the journey.
Another advantage of taking breaks while driving an electric car is alleviating range anxiety. Range anxiety refers to the concern of not having enough charge to reach the destination or the next charging station. By incorporating regular breaks and using our Moto EV Superhubs for recharging intervals, you can enhance your confidence in the vehicle’s range throughout the journey.
Here at Moto, we support the prioritisation of EV road safety and education. We stand with ProjectEDWARD to promote responsible driving. Let’s commit to safer roads by staying alert, following traffic rules, and driving responsibly. Together, we can make a difference!
