This month, we’re celebrating Moto Rugby as we approach its first birthday on 30th April. Our flagship site and the UK’s newest motorway service area, the state of the art facilities are a result of a £40 million site investment that created 120 jobs in the West Midlands. Moto Rugby also changed the face of motorway driving in the UK for EV drivers, becoming the largest ultra-rapid charging site on the motorway network.
Since opening, around 3 million people have passed through the doors at Rugby, which is also our most environmentally-friendly site, with landscape-based initiatives including sustainable drainage, swales, bioretention planters; biomass energy boiler; and considered design including overhangs to provide shade, window design to provide maximum daylight with minimal lighting.
Located at Junction 1 of the M6, the site features 24 ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging points: 12 Tesla & 12 GRIDSERVE Electric Highway. Significantly, this was the start of a huge upgrade to our EV charging infrastructure across the network, and we’ve worked alongside GRIDSERVE to bring upgraded chargers to the entire Moto network.
The site also features:
- Our family of loved brands, including Marks & Spencer, Greggs, Costa Coffee, KFC, Pret a Manger, Burger King, WHSmith and BP
- 100 HGV parking spaces, 18 coach bays and 458 car parking spaces
- state of the art toilet and shower facilities including Changing Places and family rooms
- Indoor and outdoor play areas
- Picnic areas
- Dog walking areas
