Working for us

So what kind of people are we looking for?

We believe that we can teach people anything. Apart from the most senior roles, the prime qualification for working for Moto isn’t academic qualifications. We’re looking for the right combination of attitude and personality.

You must be warm, outgoing and genuinely want to help people, never forgetting that our customers are our bread and butter. We can’t stress that strongly enough.

So what are my prospects?

Whatever you want them to be. You can join us as a temporary, part-time or permanent Customer Services Assistant. Opportunities also come up for Area General Managers and Department Managers. And we do of course need to fill all the usual roles at head office.

You don’t have to want to be a high flyer with Moto, although there’s nothing to stop you reaching the boardroom if that’s what you aspire to. Some of our Board colleagues started their careers in the business on the shop floor. And 60% of our senior managers have worked their way up through the ranks.

That says a lot about us as a company. It says that we prefer to promote from within. It says that we recognise people who’re committed to delivering top-notch customer service. And it says that we reward their efforts. We make that same promise to you!

Don’t worry. We’ll prepare you for each promotional step and you’ll be supported by management development workshops, along with the appropriate brand-specific and customer relations training.

Sounds great, but is it all work and no fun?

Running an operation like ours (and keeping it on the road 24×7) is exciting and challenging. There are rules, of course. But if you ask a cross-section of our people, they’ll tell you that we’re a fun company to work for.

Do we sound like your kind of company?

We hope so. Here’s what’s involved in being a:

Customer Services Assistant

You’re right there on the front line – the face of Moto. You like to be busy. You like to smile. You like to listen. And you’re a keen team player. If you’re all of those things, lots of opportunities are open to you. Contracts and shift patterns are flexible, to suit your preferences and family responsibilities. Remember, we’re open 24×7, 365 days a year!

A normal day’s work might involve looking after our customers in a shop or restaurant, handling cash, preparing refreshments and food, keeping the place ship shape or re-stocking shelves and fridges.

Alternatively, you might prefer to be authorising the sale of petrol and other goods on a forecourt, while keeping a watchful eye on things from the public health and safety perspective.

We don’t just want you to provide excellent service. We want you to make sure that our customers and your colleagues are safe and sound at all times. That really is a top priority for us.

With us you’ll get…

  • Excellent rates of pay
  • Rewards based on performance
  • Flexible shift patterns
  • Training & personal development
  • Generous holiday & sick pay

Supervisor

You can start your management career right here! We’re looking for supervisors to run our operations day-to-day at the shop floor level.

You’ll be entirely responsible for your small team of Customer Services Assistants, organising whatever needs to be organised, planning breaks and shift patterns, merchandising and stock levels, as well as cashing up at the end of the day.

Previous supervisory experience would be useful. But don’t get your whatsits in a twist. If you feel that you can cut the mustard and are committed to providing great customer service, we’ll provide the training you need.

With us you’ll get…

  • Excellent rates of pay
  • Rewards based on performance
  • Flexible shift patterns

Assistant Department Manager

Under the guidance of your Department Manager, and reporting directly to them, we want you to make certain that every member of your team is 100% focused on their role and contributing to the success of our business.

You’ll also be recruiting and interviewing Customer Services Assistants and Supervisors for your team, monitoring costs and staffing levels, running team briefings, conducting appraisals and overseeing training and personal development.

And you’ll always be looking for continuous improvement. We’re not just talking about individual behaviours. We want you to proactively look for ways in which we can improve how we do things, to become even more customer focused and drive up customer spend.

Often, a good way of doing that is to listen to your team and take their suggestions on board! We don’t have a ‘them’ and ‘us’ management culture here at Moto.

We’re in this business together, always ready, willing and able to learn from each other. Everyone’s ideas and suggestions for improvement are welcome and, where implemented, appropriately rewarded.

You can expect your next steps be Department Manager, Deputy General Manager and Area General Manager. Then, potentially, you could be looking at a seat at the top table!

There are no barriers to promotion in our organisation. Only job challenges, tremendous job satisfaction and recognition for outstanding performance above and beyond the call of duty.

With us you’ll get…

  • Excellent rates of pay
  • Discretionary bonus
  • Training & personal development
  • Generous holiday & sick pay
  • Company pension
  • Life insurance

Department Manager

You’ll be totally responsible for one of our big brand high street businesses. We see you as the customer service champion within your shop, constantly on the lookout for new opportunities to increase sales; someone who makes absolutely certain that we engage with our customers in the right way – first time, every time!

Your role will include recruitment, interviewing candidates and team appraisals. It will also embrace resource planning to ensure that you meet company forecasts.

You must also be capable of dealing with challenges as they arise. And you absolutely must adhere to operational and brand standards and Health & Safety policies.

You’ll obviously want each and every member of your team to be as efficient, productive and fulfilled they possibly can be. So you’ll be a keen advocate of training and personal development.

Last but not least, you’ll be the kind of person who, with the customer upmost in their mind, is eager to get to grips with the nitty-gritty of our systems and processes, to see how and where they might be improved.

With us you’ll get…

  • Competitive salary
  • Discretionary bonus
  • Training & personal development
  • Generous holiday & sick pay
  • Company pension
  • Life insurance
  • Free uniform

Deputy General Manager

If you apply for this position, get it and excel in your role, you can expect to be promoted to Area General Manager within 12 to 18 months. We’d like to start you at one of our smaller sites, so you can learn the ropes at a reasonably slow pace. But don’t expect an easy ride, the pace won’t be that slow!

Initially at least, you’ll also need to be flexible in terms of location. You’ll be expected to take full responsibility for the site when the Area General Manager is away and cover for other AGMs when they’re on holiday.

Reporting to the Area General Manager, who has overall responsibility for everything that goes on at the site, you’ll be supporting the managers of our big brand retail outlets.

Your role will be to ensure all these outlets operate profitably, to strict health and safety guidelines, and that our teams comply with the operational and brand guidelines laid down by Moto and our big brand partners.

Experience is a must for this position. You’ll have managed high volume units and been responsible for overseeing all cost lines. Plus you’ll have a proven track record of success in managing large teams and delivering outstanding operational results, preferably in a big brand environment.

Other than that, you’ll be self-driven (i.e. personally responsible for achieving the development targets set out in your development programme).

With us you’ll get…

  • Competitive salary
  • Discretionary bonus
  • Development programme
  • Generous holiday & sick pay
  • Company pension
  • Health insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Free parking
  • Employee Discount Scheme

Area General Manager

If you’ve got previous line management experience, ideally in a fast-paced, multi-brand retail or catering environment, this position could be earmarked for you.

You’ll be the leader of the pack in your service area, with overall responsibility for everything that goes on there.

You’ll be expected to hit and exceed challenging financial targets. You’ll also be the kind of person who’s creative when solving problems, can prioritise work under pressure, is a great communicator and has the diplomatic skills required to resolve customer complaints.

Over and above that, you’ll need to make certain that each team follows our corporate and operational guidelines. And it goes without saying, almost, that you’ll be passionate about delivering excellent customer service, and just as eager for your managers and their teams to embrace that same passion.

Reporting directly to the Regional Operations Director, you’ll be expected to develop close ties with the relevant head office support functions, such as HR, Finance, Training, Brands and Marketing.

You’ll additionally be responsible for ensuring that the recruitment process meets company standards and driving the over-arching training and contingency strategy for all our retail brands.

On the finance front, you’ll know how to use management information, including Key Performance Indicators and Profit & Loss data, to focus priorities and ensure each unit is running efficiently and profitably.

This is one of the most important and challenging roles in our business. The rewards in terms of job satisfaction alone are tremendous. The salary and other benefits mirror the scale and scope of your responsibilities.

With us you’ll get…

  • Competitive salary
  • Discretionary bonus
  • Generous holiday & sick pay
  • Company pension
  • Health insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Free parking
  • Employee Discount Scheme
  • Company car
